Hmm... something to think about

I believe…

…two people can look at the same thing and see something totally different.

…the happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything they have.

…that heroes are the people that do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

  • Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.
  • It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision.
  • Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
  • Unless we form the habit of going to the Bible in bright moments as well as in trouble, we cannot fully respond to its consolations because we lack equilibrium between light and darkness.

Quotes by Helen Keller

Miracles
Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature.
Augustine

The gospel which they so greatly needed they would not have; the miracles which Jesus did not always choose to give, they eagerly demanded.
Charles Spurgeon

Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.
CS Lewis

The ‘Big Society’

A recent survey carried out by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) indicated that only a minority of charities believe that the Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘Big Society’ is achievable – even with sufficient funding.

However, the Archbishop of York, Dr Sentamu commented in a recent interview: ‘The Big Society? The church has been doing it for over 2000 years!’ And recent figures show that in the Church of England (CofE) alone, 136,000 volunteers run groups to provide activities in the local communities – outside of worship – for over half a million children and young people aged under 16 years of age. In fact, the CofE employs more youth workers than any other organisation and the Church understands the importance of volunteering and being active in our communities.

A moral lesson

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3. The
boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw
the opportunity for a moral lesson.
She said, ‘If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, “Let my brother have the first
pancake. I can wait.”’
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, ‘OK Ryan, you be Jesus.’
